Hello, are you a business owner on the Gold Coast and you’re thinking about business coaching? Well, if you are, then I’ve got a few helpful tips for you that are going to ensure that you choose the right business coach or consultant for you. My name is Ian Marsh, CEO StreetSmart Business School, and if you follow these simple steps then you’re going to have the right partner. And that’s what business coaching is, is you having a relationship with that person that can help you go from point A to point B. And so, here are the tips for you, and these are tried and true, and if you follow them again, you choosing the right business coach is going to have a massive improvement on your business.
So number one, when you’re choosing your business coach, understand there are four key areas in the business. They’re all the same. The first one is guiding the business, the second one is getting the business, the third one is doing the business, and the fourth one is running the business, or the systems and the processes. And so, this is straight out of The E Myth, Michael Gerber. And so work out, number one, what your biggest priority is. So when you’re getting business coaching, do you need more help in lead generation and sales skills? Or do you need more help in the efficiency of your organisation? Or do you need more help in strategy and seeing if your vision needs work, and needs a bit of assistance, maybe doing what if scenarios, et cetera? All business coaches have different strengths. Some are leaning more towards the sales and the marketing side. Some are more towards the planning, et cetera, and the process side. So that is the first thing you want to understand.
The next thing you want to understand, and understand business coaching on the Gold Coast is different to other areas of Australia, because there are different dynamics, it’s a different economy. So what you want to do with the second area, is once you’ve worked out what area you want to improve in your business, you then want to get very clear on the results you want to achieve. And see if the coach that you’re considering is really listening to your needs and what you want to accomplish, not what they want to accomplish.
And the way you can work that out is when you’re having your conversation with them to decide whether you should be utilising their services, see if they’re prepared, see if they’ve done the research, see if they’ve got a clear initial strategy to help you go from point A to point B before they even start to make an offer to you. Make sure that they can show you how they will get you to the promised land. And so, if they’ve done that research and they’re listening more than talking, that’s another very good sign for you.
And the third and final step is, okay, well if I decide to take you on and utilise your services, how do I know? How do I know that we’re going to be a good fit and you’re going to help me improve things in my company? Well, that’s where they should be backing themselves up. That’s where they should be saying to you, “Okay, well if you follow my directions as described and you execute them in the manner I ask you to, then you’re going to achieve X result. And if I do not more than pay for my contribution to you, then I don’t deserve your money.”
Okay, so that’s my take on it. Follow those simple steps if you are considering getting business coaching on the Gold Coast, and you should make sure that you have a great relationship and you get the results that you’re looking for.
